My experience is what Romy would call primitive, but I did hear these horns and can only compare them to sound reproduction in general, not other horns. There was a sub as part of the scheme, don't know if it was actually part of the original d...

I do not have lot of experience with TAD cone drivers but there is a thing bout then that always afraid.
A few years ago I was at demonstration of Model-1, the TAD’s $50,000 flagman model and it had very strange feeling – the speakers sounded surpri...

Ok. I have some very good results to report. I've been stuffing my midrange horn (250hz lecleach with BMS4592nd-midrangeonlyversion) with some 20-hole-per-inch open cell foam. As per Mr. Geddes. Its not coming out. 1. I can now play louder with no sh...
As to those horrible BMS's… why care if their problems can be successfully controlled by this foam?!
Well, if you have diabetes and pump up own body with insulin then it might make you glucose-balance but does it make your ...

The best driver I have heard is the TAD 4003.
It does not use the secondary resonance of the suspension, as described by Duke LeJeune above for the TAD 4001-4002, to extend the response towards 20 kHz, but has a natural roll off from app. 15 kHz.
By “midbass horn” I’m talking about a horn with about a flare frequency of about 60 Hz, to use with Fane 8” drivers, to start with.

Andrew,Dont buy all the drivers at once, I would get only the upper bass horn drivers and maybe the mid drivers, you will have to play around with these for a while before things start clicking toghether, by then who knows, maybe you will think t...

Hi Romy,
Since you have certain opinions on TAD/Beryllium sound, Im curious:
1) Which TAD drivers you evaluated (2001, 2002, 4001, 4002, 4003) ?
2) With what Fc horns?
3) With what horn materials?
4) With what Xovers?
Thanks!
Some drivers have a rising db curve from low to high frequencies. The horn may help with flattening the FR. If the FR of a given coaxial compression driver is flat, I would agree with your conclusion.
Mi...

We had this exchange with Christopher Witmer, who lives in Japan, via the AA about the new driver form some small Japanese manufacturer. The dirt who runs that form has deleted the whole development. Hm, people wonder why for years I have a vocal and...

Scott from the miserable Afghanistan was strategizing about his new 5-wsy installation and sketched to us Faital drivers. I knew nothing about the company, looked them up and find that the do some compression drivers with Ketone diaphragms.

I guy from Germany, Reinhard, sent my email that I feel worth to repost in this thread:
“But, let's talk about Goto. As the discussion is on for some three years, it is very urgent. As far as I can see - and read - (please forgive me) yo...

The entry ticket (a 3-digits figure, incl. a dedicated, Class D amp) for the "try it" isn't hideous like a pair or a quartet of SG-146LDs, but I'd love reading your opinion(s) on the following... as my "dream", my vision would be: 200-20khz multi-am...

Thanks for the wolves- and power tips!I don't know any industry wolves unfortunately(?), but more new -01 drivers have appeared at half the price. I think I'll go ahead and make the speakers full range in time for my upcoming 30-years-on-earth-c...

It always was mystery for me but there is no good 12” drivers outs there, at least that I know. There are many 12-inchers out there but all of them are not good. The Cat...

Audio people know that loudspeakers mostly define the quality of sound reproduction. Also, everyone knows that the capacity of the loudspeakers mostly determined by the capacity of the drivers that loudspeakers use. Regardless of the topologies, appl...

Bill, I am happy that you've improved your bass. As Romy mentioned in an earlier post about Bruckner, RTA is just one tool, and we have to listen and hear results with Music we know and love. When you told of the disappearing S2s, I was going to ment...

The idea of a driver/speaker that "sorts out" noise and "puts it in its place" is very interesting! But perhaps we are thinking wrongly about how this might be done? As far as doing it earlier in the "reproduction" chain, I do know a version of thi...

Crossing the woofer so high is not really a fair comparison. The compression drivers needed to be in a bigger horn, and possibly be replaced with a driver that does 100Hz for certain. ...

Well, I read somewhere here, when you suggested to start from general configuration and horn design.
Do you suggest first to choose drivers ?
I have 2m long 100Hz horn which covers 200-4000Hz and I like it very much, but 2m is too long for ...

The drivers are said to be 2@15", paper; 2@8", paper; 1@5", paper; 1@1", polyester. The X/Os are shown as 45Hz, 260Hz, and 2kHz. Does this mean that the 8" drivers are driven down to 45Hz; the 5" driver is driven down to 260Hz; the 1" polyester tweet...
